Founded in 1994 by Michael Rock, Susan Sellers, and Georgianna Stout, 2×4 is a collaborative studio of designers, programmers, writers, and animators who work in visual media. As a studio, their project approach centers on critical thinking and research. As in their mural, “Vortex”, in the Miami Design District, this experimentation and research often culminate in bold graphic works that question the nature and conventions of design. Tasked with creating a piece for a perimeter wall, “Vortex” immediately draws the viewer in beckoning those who are curious to see what is on the other side.
