Ciao, Milan Fashion Week and bon jour to Paris! Yes, the City of Light is brimming with Spring 2014 collections, illuminati and even an elusive Kim and Kanye West appearance (sorry, we had to go there). While houses such as Emanuel Ungaro, Elie Saab, Giambattista Valli, Stella McCartney, Akris, Givenchy, Céline, Comme des Garçons and more hit the catwalks, we breakdown the top trends and celeb-laced news here:
Go for the Graffiti
Phoebe Philo’s Céline woman is anything but a wallflower. In fact, she’s awash in graffiti prints — and not just any street art. Philo makes a nod to graffiti indigenous to the streets of Paris as captured by photographer Brassaï. Think brazen black and white graphic prints — easy, free and fun.
Cream of the Crop
Sorry ladies, the crop top is still seeing the light of day (better keep up with those six-pack-abs exercises paired with juice fasts). Kenzo is experiencing a major comeback and their collection was brimming with mid-drifts and expertly tailored motifs. Always one to push specific print (like their omnipresent tiger sweatshirt), their yellow-and-blue fish print is a welcome surprise in a sea — pun intended — of black and white.
Awesome Blossoms
With Paul McCartney, Jeff Koons and hubby Alasdhair Willis sitting front row at the Stella McCartney show (a veritable who’s who!), Stella showed us what she does best — slouchy men’s jackets and trousers and IT dresses. Adding a fresh dose of spring into the mix, animal-friendly Stella utilized petal prints for a feminine feel.
Power Couple Goes
And what’s a Paris Fashion Week story without Kim and Kanye mention? Their first formal public appearance as a couple since Kardashian gave birth to their daughter North back in June, Kimye were spotted looking superfly at the Givenchy show. Both fervent fashion fiends, the couples were also spotted meeting with former Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld. Such a power couple.
