If in addition to your summer tan you’ve also acquired a fiancé — your timing for love and wedding dress shopping couldn't be more perfect. Just a few months ago, designers sent their Spring/Summer 2018 bridal wear looks down the aisle, er, runway and there are plenty of new options to choose from.
We sat down with the team, at Chernaya Bridal, Miami Design District luxury bridal boutique that carries top designers like Naeem Khan, Marchesa, Reem Acra, Elie Saab, Elie Youssef, Sachin & Babi, to name a few, to discuss the latest trends.
Falling For Full Skirts
Ball gowns and fuller skirts are making a comeback according to Chernaya Bridal House manager, Priscilla Nemirovski. “The last couple years we’ve seen brides showing more skin, tighter silhouettes and nude bases, but now brides are requesting a more classic look and with that, they are covering up more,” she says. Designers like Reem Acra and Elie Yousef are creating full bottom bridal gowns that flattering and comfortable to wear throughout the night.
Covered Up
“Long sleeves and high necks were huge this season and have continued to make its impression on the runway for Spring 18. Brides are constantly asking for build-ups and sheer mesh tops with lace or embroidery,” Nemirovski adds. Reem Acra and Naeem Kahn feature long sleeved dresses in their collections that are intricately detailed yet far from conservative, even though less skin is shown.
Custom Capes
If you’re looking to cover your shoulders whether for religious reasons or simply for style, “capes and coats are amongst the custom build-ups we create through our various designers,” notes Nemirovski. One of Chernaya’s brides was featured in Vogue wearing a custom cape that the boutique worked with Reem Acra to design. Marchesa also featured capes in its latest collection.
Colored Accessories
While black and blue gowns were seen a lot on the runway, that trend is still up in the air for Miami brides, according to Nemirovski. She notes that the brides that she works with aren’t ready for bold colors, but are more receptive to light blush and nude tones with embroidery or lace. For those looking to deviate from the traditional white gown, Reem Acra created a stunning blue gown with gold embroidered — which could even count as your “something blue” as well as “something new.” Acra also featured a number of black accessories in the collection.
