October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which means October in the Design District is a time for Fashion Strikes Cancer. Now in its fourth year, the event celebrates survivors like Angeles Almuna. This year's event will honor Breast Cancer Reserach Foundation's Co-Chair, Kinga Lampert.
The benefit raises funds for Breast Cancer Research Foundation so others can share their survivor story. Held at the Moore Elastika Building on October 25 at 7:30p.m., the event will yet again be hosted by Almuna, a breast cancer survivor and social media influencer who has openly shared every step of her battle. “The event Fashion Strikes Cancer is getting bigger and better. It will be an evening of art, music, fashion, stories and memories of those that they are not with us anymore because of this illness,” Almuna says. “I will contribute with my own journey and work to create consciousness and awareness that we can educate people that early detection and research can be the end of breast cancer.”
This year, guests can expect a performance by Manu Manzo, music from DJ Michelle Leshem, drinks like rose and cocktails, bites and more. Breast Cancer Research Foundation Co-Chair Kinga Lampert will also be honored. Almuna says we can also expect a surprise this year. “But I cannot tell what, because it won’t be a surprise,” she jokes. “But it will certainly be a beautiful, empowering surprise.”
Empowering is an important word for Almuna. Through her own battle she has made strides to empower others. This event, is just one of them. “Being a survivor means I am alive and life is giving me another opportunity to be a better person,” she says. “My breast cancer changed my life and this event is giving me a purpose to be motivated and feeling so alive. I am doing something with a very meaningful message.”
