Rafael Diaz is a medical doctor and artist. In his Anonymous series, Diaz melds his two careers using the 5th century Hippocratic Oath, an oath doctors take to keep patient confidentiality, as the point of inspiration to photograph his subjects, anonymously. With faces in shadow, each subject’s identity is defined by partial clues such as age, hair, skin color, tattoos, and more. At a time when a worldwide pandemic has affected us all, the Anonymous series is a reminder that patients are not statistics but individuals despite this need for confidentiality.
