Miami Design District welcomes the acclaimed painter, poet, and film-maker Nereida García-Ferraz for a temporary residency on 40th Street, where she runs a painting studio open to visitors during working hours. Visit for a chance to meet Nereida and see her work in the context of production.
Nereida García-Ferraz was born in Havana, Cuba in 1954 and migrated to the United States in 1970. She currently lives in Miami and has been teaching and exhibiting since 1977. Nereida grew up in Chicago and received her BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1981. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, and the Richard Diebenkorn Fellowship from the San Francisco Art Institute. She is the co-producer of the foundational film “Ana Mendieta: Fuego De Tierra”, which won Best Video Documentary in the 1988 National Latino Film Festival and is in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum in New York, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
