Uruguay-born, Paris-based artist Jill Mulleady collaborated with ICA Miami and the Miami Design District to create this large-scale billboard visible on the highly transited I-95 highway. The work reproduces her 2024 painting Pesca a la Encandilada (Dazzled Fishing) as seen in an exhibition at Sant’Andrea de Scaphis — a Roman church that served as a place of worship for the folks whose labor at the port supplied fish and goods to the community. The tenebrosity of the painting’s multicolor skies, refracted on the choppy ocean’s surface, contrasts with the bright flame deployed by the fisherman to lure fish into his net. The scene recalls Mulleady’s fishing activities in her native Uruguay, and instills the rundown temple with scenes of dynamism and secular life.
