To celebrate 100 years of N°5, CHANEL has commissioned renowned artist Es Devlin to create an immersive, multi-sensory installation inspired by the iconic composition. Over the past 5 years, Devlin collaborated closely with CHANEL In-House Perfumer Creator Olivier Polge to translate the fragrance molecules into a soundscape and a spectrum of light. The result is a mesmerizing meditation on the power of scent to communicate and transcend reality.
Step into a lush forest that recalls the landscapes of southern France surrounding the Abbey of Aubazine, where Gabrielle Chanel spent her childhood. Then be immersed in a monumental sculptural labyrinth of 5 concentric pathways. Corridors of striated light and audio recordings lead to the heart of the maze, where you can experience N°5 like never before.
The entirety of the installation has been conceived according to sustainable circular design principles. The forest of over 1,000 plants, shrubs and trees will be replanted in the Gladeview and West Kendall areas of Miami in collaboration with Million Trees Miami and One Tree Planted, while the structural elements will all be reused and recycled.
