Just in time for Art Basel - the Design District will be the first U.S. stop for Spain’s new international traveling exhibition as Tapas - Spanish Design for Food takes over The Moore Building now through Sunday, December 15.

Honoring the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de León’s arrival in Florida, Tapas explores the interaction between design and gastronomy, two disciplines enjoying  increased popularity in Spain and elsewhere. The exhibition features products designed both by Spaniards as well as items made in Spain by foreign designers.

The show is divided into three major sections within the 8,000-square-foot exhibition: the kitchen, the table and the meal. The show encompasses more than 200 exhibits, displays and installations by Spanish chefs, designers, architects, wineries and restaurants spanning the last 25 years. Tapas will also have on display a number of designs produced exclusively for leading restaurants such as El Bulli, El Celler de Can Roca and Mugaritz.

In addition to the exhibit, Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and Centro Cultural Español in Miami (CCE Miami) will present a cultural series throughout November and December including a lecture on trends about food and design from three different James Beard Awarded chefs including José Andrés, Michelle Bernstein and Maricel Presilla; film screenings about the culture of food in Spain; workshops about raw cooking by chefs Agusti Comabella and Montse Guillen; and an an audiovisual presentation featuring a selection of interior design in Spanish restaurants.

The exhibit is open Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m and noon-7 p.m. Saturday, and is free and open to the public. Times and dates vary for the cultural panels. For more information visit their website at www.ccemiami.org.
