Every foodie’s favorite time of the year is quickly approaching as the South Beach Wine and Food Festival (SOBEWFF) celebrates its 13th installment from Thursday, February 20 through Sunday, February 23. Celebrity chefs from around the world come to celebrate all things culinary during this food festival and the Design District chefs are getting in the action.
First lady of Miami cuisine and owner of Crumb on Parchment, Michelle Bernstein, participates in two festival events this year. The first event for Bernstein is the Spice It Up! Dinner at Edge Steak & Bar, which is part of the New York Times Dinner Series and highlights unique spices found throughout the world. To close out the festival she hosts the Goya Foods Swine & Wine event at the Biltmore Hotel on Sunday, February 22, where her and more than 15 of her culinary friends serve up delicious meats prepared in the caja china.
Oak Tavern’s David Bracha serves up his signature creations at two events this year. At the festival’s Friday night rooftop party, Oyster Bash, Bracha will teams up with Ming Sai and Jeremy Sewall to serve up fresh Island Creek Oysters. At Saturday night’s Thrillist BBQ & Blues hosted by Bobby Deen, guests can enjoy Bracha’s BBQ-inspired dishes while dancing the night away to a live blues band.
If you’re heading to the Grand Tasting tent make sure to look for MC Kitchen’s Dena Marino on Saturday, February 22 from 3:00-3:45 p.m. From courtside-to-beachside, join Miami Heat's Shane Battier and Chris Bosh as they turn the KitchenAid Culinary Demonstration stage into SOBEWFF's first-ever Kitchen Heat throw down. Don't miss the chance to see your favorite athletes in the ultimate food relay event as MC Kitchen's Chef Dena Marino and Shane Battier take on Chef Terrance Williams and Chris Bosh - for a culinary showdown on the beach. Marino will also bring a little bit of the SOBEWFF to the Design District as she co-hosts the intimate Bella Cucina Dinner at MC Kitchen on Thursday evening with Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli.
Finishing the festival on a sweet note is Hedy Goldsmith of The Genuine Hospitality Group who’s making her famous desserts at the Life’s A Beach! And Then You Eat dinner at the Mandrian Oriental on Friday night. The walk-around dinner event will include dishes created by some of the world’s greatest food talents including Gaston Acurio, Paul Kahan, Marcus Samuelsson, Aaron Sanchez and Jonathan Waxman.
