Mykita + Maison Martin Margiela Collaboration Lands in the Design District
Take one German eye manufacturer, mix it with the fashion house Maison Martin Margiela and you have a recipe for sunglasses that looks as delicious as they sound. The power of the Ms combined this spring to create an exclusive line of eyewear. When looking for the right partner in crime, Maison Martin Margiela turned to Mykita, known for its hand-assembled frames and sunglasses, to bring the partnered project to the next level. Paired with Maison Martin Margiela’s fresh take on innovative design, the two powerhouses created a line that includes 10 pairs of luxe sunglasses just awaiting a jet-set adventure this summer.
Describing the combining of the two brands’ project as “the reinterpretation of historical forms, radical experimentation with constructions and an unconventional approach to materials,” the end result is a striking take on eyewear that combines timeless craftsmanship with modern day technologies. The Dual collection takes historical shapes and gives them a modern update by deconstructing one form and dividing it into pairs. The Essential is a stainless steal option that uses raw materials and no additives to create classic shapes with a contemporary element, like monochrome frames with matching lenses in six unisex styles. Think reflective gold on gold glasses.
The collection launched in the Design District on May 15. Step in and get the sun out of your eyes by trying on a pair or two.
