The fourth annual Sunbrella® Future of Shade competition, celebrating innovation in shade and design, has an interesting proposition in store for the Miami Design District: a new shaded space for Paradise Plaza.
The contest challenges architects and designers to push the envelope on shade and design to create something that's attractive and functional. Entrants are tasked with devising a solution for peak sunlight hours at Paradise Plaza and Paseo Ponti — where shade is essential in providing comfort and well-being to both denizens of the District and visitors looking for respite in a cool outdoor space.
The Wellness Garden category follows a similar theme of well being, where participants are asked to submit designs that promote wellness and healing in both public and private spaces, such as gardens and school campuses. While the Humanitarian category aims to address social needs by inviting participants to improve living conditions in an impoverished area through the use of shade.
Those interested in improving the Miami Design District with creative awnings, canopies and more, have until February 19th to register and until March 20, 2016 to submit their creations. One winner from each category will be chosen and awarded cash prizes as well as have their work commissioned for completion.
