It’s that time of year again: Miami Art Week. The annual art-filled festival, takes over the neighborhood from November 28 to December 4.
And while the Miami Design District already has plenty of world-renowned art galleries and public pieces on display, there are many new exciting additions for the special week.
Speed of Light
For our annual holiday installation, the Miami Design District commissioned London-based designer Philippe Malouin to light up the neighborhood in a unique way. His response was The Speed of Light, a kinetic installation that turns urban design elements into a rollercoaster of light. The piece features glowing orbs of light rolling down post tracks from Palm Court to Paseo Ponti, accompanying visitors as they walk through the neighborhood. On display from November 28 to January 3, 2017.
Jeffery Deitch & Larry Gagosian Present Desire, Curated by Diana Widmaier Picasso
After a wildly successful first exhibit in The Moore Building for Miami Art Week 2015, Jeffrey Deitch and Larry Gagosian have returned for a second year to present Desire curated by Diana Widmaier Picasso. Taking over The Moore Building once again, Desire will focus on modern and contemporary approaches to eroticism in art. The show will feature the work of about fifty artists from modern masters like Picasso and Balthus to emerging talents. A number of the artists will be specially commissioned for the show, which will display artworks in a variety of media. The show is free and open to the public. On display from November 30 to December 4.
Galleria Ca’ D’Oro
Famed architect and designer Gaetano Pesce, who has a storied career that spans more than four decades, opens his exhibit Multidisciplinarietà in the Miami Design District’s own Galleria Ca’ D’Oro during Miami Art Week. In this show, Pesce displays projects ranging from architecture, to drawings, to painted floors, to expressive containers, that help give contemporary relevance to of the Italian Renaissance.
