The Miami Design District is taking the lead on LEED. LEED is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and LEED for Neighborhood Development integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building into neighborhood design and planning. Here’s how the Miami Design District is leading the way.
We are the first LEED-certified Neighborhood Development in Miami-Dade County (only the second in the State of Florida) as well as the first LEED Neighborhood Development with retail as the primary usage in the Southeast United States. That makes us one of only 88 LEED Neighborhood Development projects in the entire U.S. and among the elite 33 projects to achieve Gold certification.
Additionally the Garden Building, designed by architecture firm KR, with the Design District's first rooftop garden by Island Planning Corporation, received LEED Gold certification for Core & Shell.
If you haven't seen all the exciting new development going on around the district, we invite you to come down and have a look... our future is looking green!
