While temperatures may start to cool as we head into fall, date night should not. Look no further than the MDD for your next night a deux--as the food, drink and cultural options are endless. Here are five tasty ideas for the perfect date night in Miami… plus what to wear.
Happy Hour at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink
Grab an evening cocktail and tasty bites at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink where the Miami Design District's dining scene was born. Monday through Friday, from 4:30-7:30pm, check out the MGFD happy hour menu of well-priced cocktails and infamous snacks like Thick Cut Potato Chips with Pan Fried Onion Dip or oysters.
What to Wear: a colorful floral print dress from Gucci for her, jeans and a casual look from Dior Mens for him.
Boozy Ice Cream + Art Tour
Did you know that twice a month, art critic and journalist Margery Gordon leads free art tours that showcase select public artworks and architectural highlights in the Miami Design District? Choose between Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening tours. Grab your love and get ready to discover new things about signature favorites and new additions to the MDD art scene. Afterwards, pop by Aubi & Ramsa 21 + Ice Cream to sample their totally unique wine and spirit infused ice cream treats, like The Highland Truffle—a Belgian chocolate ice cream made with Macallan 12 YR and chocolate chunks.
What to Wear: Comfy kicks from Koio.
Peruse the Latest Exhibits at ICA Miami + Dinner at Swan
Check out what’s new at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami and then discuss the works over dinner at Swan. Split small plates like Steak Tartare or Seabass Sashimi or nosh on one of Swan’s mouth-watering pasta dishes like short rib ravioli. We love the vibe at the hotspot owned by David Grutman and Pharrell… totally romantic and cozy. Bonus: if you just want the night to keep going, move upstairs to Bar Bevy for a nightcap.
What to Wear: Looks that easily transition from day to night like an Isabel Marant dress for her, jeans and a top from Rag & Bone for him.
Order Each Other’s Favorites at St. Roch Market
If you and your boo love to eat, pop by MDD’s delicious, chef-centric food hall and step outside your comfort zone by ordering each other’s favorites instead of your own. St. Roch Market has something for even the pickiest eaters—everything from Caribbean, Vietnamese, Italian and Japanese cuisine is represented. Take a walk on the wild side and order something new, like fried chicken tacos at COOP or any of the tasty ceviche dishes and rolls from James Beard award nominated restaurant Itamae—while sipping handcrafted cocktails at The Mayhaw.
What to Wear: Keep it casual and cool with jeans from Frame for her and an on-trend graphic tee from Lower East Coast for him.
Wine Tasting at Abaco Wines & Wine Bar
Try something different and stop by or reserve a wine tasting at Abaco Wines & Wine Bar. There are tons of options-- Thursdays and Sundays, Abaco hosts pre-set tastings, often partnering with local restaurants for light bites. On the third Saturday of every month, you can pop by for a high-end tasting event. Every day from 5-6pm, you can join Abaco for a happy hour tasting. One of our favorite ideas though is to set up a private tasting for two. Call ahead and chat with Abaco’s knowledgeable team of sommeliers to craft a curated tasting for two, complete with the perfect charcuterie board.
What to Wear: something feminine and fun from Tory Burch for her and Thom Browne from him.
