The runways were alive with Fall 2014’s trends at New York Fashion Week. From what to wear in dresses to coats in the it shades of the upcoming season, here’s a look at what you should start mentally shopping now to be on trend for fall.
The Blues
If pink were the new black for spring, it’s graciously taken a backseat to baby blue for fall. Yes, pastels are alive and well in the colder months, proving all laws of old-school fashion have been defied. The color of the hour was seen at Derek Lam in the shape of fabulous oversized coats, as well as at Delpozo in dresses mixed with bold orange accents.
Sweater Weather
Your favorite autumn sweater? An oversized cardi. From big and snug to Kurt Cobain-inspired, the look was seen coming down the catwalks at Michael Kors and J. Crew. Wear it with casual wear for day, but don’t skip over adding a cardi to your night out look. It’s a warm look that’s simply hot.
The Pop
Don’t rule pink out from its “it” shade status just yet. Rather than retiring, it merely amped it up its pigments. Fuchsia, pink’s more fun cousin, takes the reigns for fall, as seen at Thakoon and Alexander Wang. The bold pop worked with neutrals, as well as bringing new life to basic blacks.
Mad About Plaid
It’s time to put those grunge era flannels away (for good), and transition into a more tasteful tartan pattern. Plaids played it up at Araks with a suit that was three pieces of perfection, as well as at Delpozo, where the lines intersected with sheer femininity for a new fad with plaid.
