Sculptures, miniaturist paintings, both inverse and aerial intaglio carvings and… diamonds. The artistry and appeal of Sevan Bıçakçı’s one-of-a-kind creations soars to new heights with the addition of fancy cut diamond solitaires.
This December, Sevan Bıçakçı is adding diamond solitaires to his reverse intaglio gemstone carved rings, pendants and earrings. The famed craftsman has been hearing a cry for more diamond intense pieces from his collectors and his solution was to take the concept of traditional solitaire diamond rings (the vast majority are six-pronged classics made after Charles Lewis Tiffany’s design in the late 1800’s) and make them truly unique and holistic to his signature craft. Bıçakçı states, “In my particular case, the big diamond is still a focus, but not everything. It is just the crowning.”
Sevan Bıçakçı, world renowned craftsman, has always believed that any precious gemstone must be as unique as its wearer. Known for achieving the highest levels of intricacy in his made-by-hand creations, Bıçakçı confessed that gemstones polished in round and oval shapes are far more fragile when it comes to engraving reverse intaglios. Not to mention, having to carve within both sides of the stone--- one from underneath for the intaglio and from above to set the diamond. With very high risks come great rewards, as seen in the first finished pieces from this collection.
Adding gemstone bezels surrounding the reverse intaglio carvings beneath each diamond carved within the center of these rings, the results are dramatic and distinct: A round, rose-cut diamond floats atop a beautiful daisy field while an oval-shaped stone showcases pink orchid flowers. Another gets embedded into a bouquet of wheat reversely engraved into a pear-shaped rock crystal meant to symbolize prosperity. These magnificent works of wearable art are on display for the first time in the Americas at the Sevan Bıçakçı boutique – upstairs at Palm Court.
